The second limit is physics. On a day when every tech is buried and the honest answer is “tomorrow morning,” the AI says tomorrow morning, clearly, with a confirmation text and a callback option. It cannot conjure a crew, and it will not soften a bad answer into a false one; a wrong optimistic window is worse than a true pessimistic one, because it spends the trust the call was supposed to build. What the AI changes is that the bad news arrives immediately, specifically, and with an update channel attached, instead of arriving as silence.

When the call is not about the schedule

The third limit is judgment. Some callers are not asking for information; they are scared, confused, or in a situation with a health dimension, an elderly caller whose house is crossing 90 degrees indoors is having a different kind of call, the kind the CDC’s extreme-heat guidance and the National Weather Service exist to warn about. Configured escalation rules recognize distress and hand these callers to a human at your company, immediately, per thresholds you set. The AI is the front line of the ETA conversation; it is not the whole company, and it is configured to know that.

We did not measure live concurrency on a customer board; the 2 PM heat-wave model is illustrative arithmetic with its assumption labeled, not a measured result. And we did not compare competing AI receptionist products, by design: the comparison that matters is against the status quo, in which most of these calls reach no one. We also did not soften the limitations; they have their own section, because a page about answering honestly should answer honestly.
